MEET THE MYERS FAMILY

Meet the Myers Family of Northeast Philly
Fighting for Joey, One Step at a Time
In February of 2024, life changed forever for Joey and his family.
Just 13 years old, Joey was diagnosed with clivus chordoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. His journey began with a brain surgery that took the family all the way to Pittsburgh, where they spent 42 days away from home in a whirlwind of worry and waiting. But the hardest part came after they returned.
Joey faced serious complications that led to an unexpected and grueling 72-day stay at CHOP. In that time, this brave teenager had to relearn how to sit up, how to eat, how to walk. His recovery became not just a medical battle, but a mental, emotional, and physical one for the whole family.
Joey’s mom stepped away from work to be his full-time caregiver. Today, she is his nurse, his therapist, his chauffeur, his cheerleader—and above all, his advocate. The family now makes frequent medical trips across Pennsylvania, including long return visits to Pittsburgh to follow up with Joey’s surgical team. Every trip adds mileage, tolls, and hospital parking bills on top of the emotional toll this journey has taken.
Before Joey’s diagnosis, life was already busy. In mid-2023, they made a practical decision to purchase a new vehicle to meet the family’s growing needs. Now, that necessary car payment—along with groceries, utilities, and their mortgage—feels like an extra weight during an already heavy time.
This is where we come in.
At Homers for Hope, we believe families like Joey’s shouldn’t have to choose between healing and surviving. We’re here to help relieve some of the financial burden so they can focus on what matters most: getting Joey healthy and strong again.
Please join us in rallying around this incredible family. Let’s show them what community really means.
